An Experimental Study of the Influences of the Ovary upon the Allergic changes of the Stomach

Abstract
There are some literatures about the relationship between the influence of Ovary and allergic reaction in other organs.
But there have been no report on the effect of the ovary on the allergic changes in stomach. Healthy female rabbits weighing around 2kg were chosen as the experimental animals.
The sensitization has been carried out by the injection of a dose of lc.c. per kg of horse serum into the subcutaneous tissue of the abdominal wall daily for 4 days.
All groups of animal were given a dose of 0.1c.c. of horse serum into the stomach wall two weeks after the sensitization.
The animals were sacrificed at the end of 3, 6, 12, 24, 48, 72 hrs and 1.2 weeks after the final injection. The sections were prepared by Hematoxylin-eosin, Van Gieson stains and were submitted for histological examination.
Microscopically in sensitized normal group, were observed vascular dilation and congestion, fibrinoid de-generation of vessels, swelling of connective tissue, hemorrhage, infiltration of inflammatory cells mainly neutrophiles and eosinophiles which become worse at 12 hrs to 24 hrs, and subsided gradually in 1 to 2 weeks.
The above fmdings in sensitized normal group were much more intense than those in normal group.
In ovariectomized group, the allergic changes were less in intensely than those in normal group.
In the group of estrogen administered, more intensive allergic changes were observed, and in the group of progesterone administered the allergic changes showed much more intensive findings and were more pronounced than normal control group, but only slightly more intensive than estrogen administered group.
In the group of ovary transplanted the same allergic changes were found as in the control group, but in the intensity of the changes were slightly more pronounced than the control group.
Conclusively, the ovary enhances the allergic changes of stomach.
